The Tarai: History, Society, Environment is a much-required addition to the still modest field of the study of the Tarai. The importance of expanding the body of knowledge on the Tarai cannot be exaggerated—not simply because the region is politically important and economically indispensable, but because almost half the population of Nepal lives there. It is in the Tarai that Nepal’s future will be decided, and this book will prove valuable to expanding knowledge about that vital region.
